Garden lovers in Northumberland were today (March 23rd) given the opportunity to have their questions answered by an award-winning horticulturalist.

Former BBC Gardener of the Year and Royal Horticultural Society silver gilt winner Bob Tridgett gave a free advice session at Heighley Gate, the Morpeth Herald revealed.

The expert explained to the newspaper that he was keen to pass on his knowledge of creating beautiful green spaces to those less experienced than he.

"People may want suggestions on what to plant where, or what plant combinations go together, and I will be happy to suggest what I think would work for their garden," he told the newspaper before the session.

Garden centre general manager Roger Wale added that it was an excellent opportunity to gain some free bespoke tips from a horticultural authority.

In other news, the Huddersfield Examiner has suggested that gooseberry growers should prune their crops now to help boost their harvest for the coming year.   - 23 March 2010
