Rather than over-cramping a garden to fit everything in, homeowners should think about what is important to them and provide enough space for whatever feature it is to be of use.
The RHS gave the example of a terrace or barbeque area, suggesting that enough room should be left to fully enjoy the feature.
Style is just as important and homeowners should choose one that suits their lifestyle.
Those with little time to tend to the garden may opt for a simple layout featuring large amounts of paving, containers, raised beds and evergreens in order to minimise the work required to keep it looking good.
