Gardeners who plan to turn their green space into an organic haven this summer have been given some tips by Scottish Television.

According to, now is a great time to start planting fruit and vegetables, as crops will be ready just in time for summer.

With the UK set for one of the warmest seasons in recent history, homeowners may be looking forward to spending more time outdoors.

Garden expert Pete Jackson told the news provider that growers should choose their favourite varieties now and get them into the ground.

"[Tomatoes] are one of the most popular plants to grow," he said. "They're dead easy."

Mr Jackson suggested that gardeners avoid using plants grown in greenhouses as they are likely to have been force-grown.

He added that a good quality compost is essential for growing any type of food, comparing it to using the best ingredients when cooking.

In other news, Channel 4's new horticulture programme The Landscape Man begins tonight (April 22nd).
