A reporter has revealed the hard work that goes into turning a log cabin into a magical Santa's grotto.

The writer for This is Surrey Today spent a day at the log cabin grotto at the Belfry Shopping Centre in Redhill.

He noted that the scene had been made to look particularly authentic thanks to a roaring mock fire and pictures on the wall from Santa's workshop.

However, while it was observed that children were enjoying the decorations and festive atmosphere, the reporter said a great deal of hard work was being put in behind the scenes to keep the enterprise going.

"It's an entertaining job, you are part queue manager and ground control," said Amy, who was working as an elf at the grotto.

"You have to keep an eye on what's going on. It can be a bit stop-start and then you get a rush of people at one time. And of course we do go out and entertain the kids if the queue gets long."
