Shed owners have been developing innovative concepts for their garden buildings in a bid to win a coveted prize, it has been revealed.

Andrew Wilcox of said he had been forced to downsize the number of categories in the Shed of the Year 2011 competition following a number of interesting submissions for the awards.

"But I had to keep Tardis sheds in," he wrote in a column for the South Wales Echo.

"Well, they are my second favourite sheds after the pub sheds, and being a bit of a Dr Who fan, it's always great to see how sheddies interpret their own version of the Time And Relative Dimensions In Space as their garden shed."

Mr Wilcox commented that his favourite "Tardis shed" is one owned by "Drolina from Stockholm", which has to withstand freezing temperatures and has to be heated as it contains a waterpump and a hydropress.

The article follows another recent piece by Mr Wilcox in which he praised a garden summer house for its innovative, 'Art Nouveau' design.
