Couples in Swindon will have the chance to wed in an elegant garden office, it has been revealed.

Work on a £695,000 project that will see Swindon Register Office move to a new home in Euclid Street is under way and is due to be completed by the end of May, the Swindon Advertiser reported.

According to the newspaper, the new office will be self-contained and will have a main ceremony room known as the Garden Room for allowing wedding parties to move into the Rose Garden for photos.

The new register office is also due to provide extra space for registrars' rooms and modern facilities for the disabled.

It is expected that the new premises will save the council £60,000 a year in running costs
Council leader Rod Bluh said: "The new register office will provide much improved facilities and a nicer setting for people who want to celebrate their big day."
