Homeowners have been urged to start planning their gardens for the onset of spring.

Gardening writer Alison Young suggested that as we move into February, now is a good time to start thinking about garden changes for the rest of the year.

"Have a look through your vegetable and garden plans from previous years and make a note of which varieties of flowers and vegetables did best and which did poorly in your garden," she suggested in a piece for the South Wales Echo.

"If you have never made a plan then start now as it's a good guide of what is planted and where."

A quality garden building such as a garden office or summer house could offer an ideal base for homeowners to draw up their seasonal plans. According to Ms Young, homeowners stuck for ideas could also just have a "leisurely flick" through some garden books for inspiration.
